Failure Rate Calculation Questions
medini_1028038066
Failure rate calculation: For calculation : why the environment factor (called E4 in ICE 61709 standard) is not seeable in the Medini formula? Where does come the default value of the “base failure rate” in the calculation parameters in Medini from? Export of a BOM components with their physical parameters (stress, rate, Power, dissipation) in Excel or Word format possible => OK BUT Import issue of component parameter (stress, rate, Power, dissipation) : is there a dedicated template with an csv/Excel file (specificity of format)?

The typical BOM do not contain parameters like voltage or temperature, it is build like on the left side based on unique part numbers, name, type of components. If you use this BOM import, you do not have initially the additional paraments. Therefore we highly recommend to build up a library, where this formulas and data will be entered once and reused on every import in the different projects. In your example this means, 1. Create a library containing the capacitor 606939529A -> as a type, using the IEC61709 and base failure rate from SN29500. 2. Import the library in the respective project -> this will add to all usages of the capacitor 606939529A (here C163 and C164) the same parameters as in your library 3. It might be needed that the values of the variables or temperature profiles are different for the C163 and C164 , this you will change in the project and not in the library. 4. Another project may use the same library, but it will maintain its own local values. How to set up and use a library is described in detail on the Ansys Learning HUB,

With the latest medini version of medini 2021R2.1 you are able to predefine categories and use their settings already on the BOM import. How this mechanism works is shown in the release webinar here:

The pi_E parameter is influencing not every of the elements in the IEC 61709 catalogue. You can find it in medini for the components in the 1st section: If the pi_E should be available for every component, please use it in the scaling expression, in the best case for a parent element and select the option " Apply scaling to children". For automotive the value of pi_E =4

The user should choose a basis failure rate from another catalogue e.g. SN25900. Sometimes the categories between the IEC61709 and the SN25900 does not fit. In case that no basis failure rate is chosen, medini takes 30FIT for capacitors and 100 FIT for diodes.
