Hi BIRTers,
Have you ever
wondered how to achieve rotated text , Freezed panes in sheet, enabled Table filters, doable grouping, protect
the worksheet with a password and others ?
The answer probably
yes but at Leas always had to do configure it after the excel output has been
generated.
Good news
you can do it directly in your *.rptdesign template!
The basic principle
is to use user Properties on a report element. Example with enablement of filters at the table
report element.
Definition
the user property ->User Properties section->
add
Define
value for the property -> Advanced Tab
Here is a
list of properties that you might find interesting (available on BIRT 4.8 )
Note all Excel report properties are starting with ExcelEmitter.*
followed by a property name.
- ExcelEmitter.Rotation (String)
- Rotate the report cell element’s
content (does not seem to work on images)
Define value (float) configuring the angle of
the rotation, i.e. to create vertical text use value of “90”
- ExcelEmitter.FreezePanes (String)
- Freeze current sheet panes coordinates are based off the cell report element with this property
can be applied to Cell report
Element (Tested on Table, Grid, List), fell free to experiment with other
report elements
configure to true or false to enable - NOTE: EXCEL feature: Single
sheet can contain only single freeze Pane definition == Last element with
Freeze-Pane property will be used to configure the row/column of freeze
pane.
So organize your report elements
on multiple worksheets if you want to have multiple freeze-pane locations
per report object -
- ExcelEmitter.AutoFilter (String)
- Turns on the Filter on the reported
Top level element such as Grid, List, Table. - Does not work for nested elements, nested
== inside of grid or another report element! - Define this user Property on Table, Grid List report element
configure to true or false to activate or
deactivate Excel Filter
- ExcelEmitter.BlankRowAfterTopLevelTable
(String)
Automatically add an empty row
after the generated Table
Define this user Property on Table
report element - configure to true or false to insert or
not an extra row line after the table
- ExcelEmitter.SheetProtectPassword
(String) - Protect the current Worksheet against
edits with a given Password
Define this user Property on any cell
report element
configure with the password string to unprotect the sheet for edits

PS:
There is no support to create an Excel formula
out of the text … It was included in the 4.16 BIRT ( github article)
