Section numbers and hierarchical structure in table of contents

Hi Jan,

I have been trying to generate a table of contents that includes the section numbers for each entry and that is also structured in hierarchical order.

I followed the instructions from this topic.

In the project attached you'll see that although I'm able to structure my TOC hierarchly, I am always getting a duplication of the Introduction section in the table of contents.

The duplication only appears when I specify the introduction section title as "{#} Introduction" and set its OnCreate and OnPrepare parameters as onCreateHeading(this); and onPrepareHeading(this); respectively.

Moreover, I cannot get the section numbers printed out in the table of contents alongside the section titles, e.g., "1 - Introdution".

The rptdesign file containing my design is in config/reports/report.rptdesign.

I think you miss the "End of Document" report item.

That one is unfortunately mandatory for FLEXSIKO based reports. This must be placed at the end and does a lot of scripting to get several things done, among others also the PDF TOC etc.

It should be in the best practices, it doe snot seem to be in your version, which is strange.

Anyway, maybe you have heard that we are going to introduce report generation based on m2doc which makes writing templates easier.

I've tried the file I shared with you on 2022 R1 and the issue is still there.

What's interesting though, is that I have this other project provided by Ansys (see attached) which everything works fine. I am not sure if I'm missing something on my side here.

Beware that the file I just shared will not work on 2022 R1. This is an issue I found out about earlier last month where 2022 R1 throws an error if you have aliases for any of your data set attributes.

Have you tried to copy the base stuff like flexiso.js etc from the project that works to your copy?

The project you attached *now* here is working fine you say but not with 22 R1 due to another problem, not related to your question?

Not sure how I can help the best, maybe you give me some "instructions" :-)

So sorry for the confusion.

In project BestPracticeTemplateISO21434 21R2.mprx (example provided by Ansys) the table of contents shows up in the following format:

1 Chapter ------------------------------ 1

1.1 Section ---------------------------- 2

2 Chapter ------------------------------ 3

etc...

In project TOCProject.mprx (my project), the table of contents shows up without the section numbers like the following:

Chapter ------------------------------ 1

Section ---------------------------- 2

Chapter ------------------------------ 3

etc...

How do I get the section numbers to print out in the table of contents of my project? What is it that I'm missing?

Hi Lucas,

you may try that out already now with either 2022 R1 or 2022 R2. There is an tech preview update site you may use to install it similar to BIRT.

Or you wait a little longer and try the 2023 R1 beta which may come out in a few weeks.

The attached file is the current status of the user guide. The first chapters (including installation and usage within medini) are more or less complete, the .docx part is still in work.

I am trying to create a mprx project template that will be shared with other engineers. This template will have an M2Doc configuration baked in to auto generate reports. Ideally, other users will not need to modify anything, just generate the report and it will extract the pertinent data.

When another user imports this project into their medini session, it seems they have to re-specify the variable artifacts even though they are already set. Otherwise, they get an error. Is there a better way to handle this? Or a fix to not have to re-select all the artifacts?

After further investigation, it turns out the "Word generated report" was already generated before the template being shared and it needed to be blank in order to avoid the error. Sorry about that!
