Filter main table on nested table results

For a given report I use two tables (tab1=main  tab2=nested table).

• Tab2 contains for every dataset's element, a field (Java type) with a list of ID
• Tab1 contains the overall list of these ID

Then my report is a master table (tab1), with one column embedding the nested table tab2. To filter the tab2 results according to each tab1 row, i use a filter on tab2 as :

 

new String(row["user_osfromupperlevel"]).indexOf(row._outer["User os id"]) greater than -1

 which is working well.

Now I would like to limit the tab1 to the rows that only contains a non null result from nested table tab2.

How can I do that?

So you want to somehow filter rows in the main (outer) table if the inner one would be empty?

Isn't that related to your  row._outer["User os id"]  attribute? I mean, if that's empty, then the inner table would be empty too, right?

I vaguely remember that I searched for that and found a BIRT page explaining how to filter a row if the cells would be empty but I cant find it anymore.
