Print out reference properties in report

Hello Jan,

How can I print out the contents of a reference property column, that refers to an object, using scripted data sources?

Let's say I have a Measures collection with a custom reference property column that refers to a Vulnerability. How can I print out the Vulnerabilities' IDs and Names (as a string) alongside the measures in a table? In the end I would like to have something like this:

Table binding: MeasureDS (Output rows: id, name, user_referenced_vulnerability)

| MeasureID | MeasureName | Vulnerability ID + VulnerabilityName |

Hi Lucas,

if it is a single reference (so a single object only) I propose to create computed columns at the Measure for the Vulnerability,

basically a new column for each attribute of the referenced object. The column can be scripted

and inside the script you check for null, navigate to the vulnerabiluty and return the desired attribute value.

if it is a 0..n reference you probabaly want to inject a sub-table / list anyway, right?

In that case you need two data set and need to parameterize the second, i.e. "only those vulnerabilities that are referenced from this particular Measure".

You may also use just a filter.

Following on from Lucas' example, does it mean that it is not possible to access properties of a derived property from BIRT's expression builder e.g. vulnerability_of_security_objective.name?

Hi Maisy,

not sure exactly what you mean. It is definitely possible, though a bit more complicated.

What we did in the scripting environment (that you can a ccess user profile properties the same way as native properties with . notation) is not available in BIRT as such.

you need to use getProfilePropertyValue(name) and then continue scripting from the result.

To print the name of vulnerabilities (where vulnerability is a derived property of measure), I did:

dataSetRow["user_measure_derived_vulnerability"].getProfilePropertyValue(name)

an error returns which says: "cannot find function getProfilePropertyValue in object."

you better define a custom column in the data set. In addition, an intermediate call to getObject() navigate from the column to the underlying Java object) is missing.

Thanks for the example. The above worked for OCL data source.

I have two follow-on questions:

1) When there are two tables that bind to the same OCL dataset, the script we wrote (just like the example you showed) won't work. But if there's only one it works fine. The error message is:

Fail to compute value for computed column "formatted_residual_risk".
A BIRT exception occurred. See next exception for more information.
Invalid javascript expression: TypeError: Cannot call method "getProfilePropertyValue" of null

2) This question refers to your answer for Lucas in regards to 0...n references and injecting a subtable. For each measure, we want to get the attack it references in a subtable. In Cybersecurity perspective and in the Measure Collection we have a column that allows the user to select attacks for each measure, and it is this column that we'd like to get (column name: user_measure_attacks). Do we have to create a separate dataset for attack, when the attack we want is readily available through user_measure_attack? How would we create a filter as you suggested for the attacks?

I tried an alternative method where I dragged a table (embedded table) into a table (parent table). The parent table binds to measure. For the embedded table, I bind it with the user_measure_attacks from the outer table. Then I created data within the table with the following expression. The result is that nothing is displayed.

row.outer["user_measure_attacks"]

Hope you can offer some insight to this!

Hi Maisy, for the first part please check Birt - How to get related Safety Goals or Requirements as dataset : Ansys medini analyze Support (freshdesk.com). You need to disable caching at the OCL data set.

The second is a bit larger topic. I try to find an example that explains it.
