Export image linked to a requirement in word

Hello,

i'd like to create a custom requirement export template using Birt, that export a requirement id, text and just after it a linked image (optional) in word format.

In my Medini project, images are linked to requirement with the trace relation, but i can also link them creating a custom attribute (custom profile section of a requirement) and then point to an image that has been imported in medini project.

i've used safety_concept.rptdesign template as starting point, but i can't find a way to do it.

Can anyone help?

Hi Samuele,

a starting point could be this article, it explains how to evaluate custom attributes in a BIRT design.

In your case that custom attribute would be an image I suppose.

thanks for the feedback.

With the linked article i was able to evaluate in BIRT a custom attribute that includes the linked image name.

A next step that i'll try in the future is to export all the image that are included in the project, search them using the custom attribute name that contains the image name, and then append the image after the requirement text.

Hi,

i've made some progess and now it works.

Basically i've done this steps:

1-i've created the ExternalResourceDataSet, that uses the OCLDataSource starting from.this article

2- the ExternalResourceDataSet is sliglty modified with respect to the article, it containts all the image included in the project and also the absolute URL of the images. The URL is extracted with a computed column and this expression:

3-in the Birt design view, i've created a list that uses the SafetyRequirementsDataSet of the standard template, adding also a custom attribute that includes the image name linked to the requirement, considering this article

4- just after the requirement text export (using FormatRequirement() function i've added in birt an imagebox tha uses this URI:

The DataSet available to this imagebox are: ExternalResourceDataSet and SafetyRequirementDataSet (this one accessible with row._outer command

4- i've modified the visibility property of the image box, to be visible only in case the attribute traced_image name is not empty:

if(BirtStr.charLength(row._outer["traced_image_name"]) == 0)
	true;
else
	false;

Now it works

I need to print the diagrams (SG, FSR, FTA, Architecture..etc) in the report.

I am using dynamic image option here. So I have tried with the "safety_concept_report" design.

The existing image (element ID: 785, marked as 1)t) works fine. But when I insert new image or copy the existing in different locations (element ID: 15526, marked as 2), its not working.

instead its showing error(image reference attached.

I think you cannot simply take the image object from a container element and put it into another container. The container typically defines the data binding that is the basis for the image. Check the Binding tab for the list or table of the original image and see where the image data are coming from. You have to replicate that to the nw container, depending on which image data you want to show.
