Output of external documents

Hello Medini Team,

I´m trying to generate a report which creates an "output package"

That means:

I have a report which references to different documents which should all be contained in one folder together with the report.

To do so, I bound the documents to my Medini project as External documents and built an External Documents Datasource.

Now is there any way to copy the external documents in the medini project to the output folder of my report when generating the report?

Hope there is a possibility to do so.

There´s one more problem, maybe fitting in here littlebit:

I designed two reports; one provides a quick overview over the whole project and the second provides a detailed explanation of a Hazard and Risk Analysis.

That means there is a Masterreport (the overview) and a Childreport (The detailed one).

Now I want to generate the Masterreport from my MediniProject AND the Childreport should automatically be generated and linked to a Table of References in the MasterReport too.

I tried it by with a Drill Through link, but I think I did this wrong. Also I analyzed your example called project_overview_report.rptdesign, but I couldn´t find relevant information for me.

Hi Jakob,

the first issue (copy documents) should be feasible, though not easy to achieve without inside knowledge.

I could provide a script function that helps you a bit.

The second sounds more tricky. You have two design files and want to really trigger BIRT report generation inside another one or you want to generate them one after the other?

I´m not should if I understand your question correctly, so:

What I have:

Two independent reportdesigns:

1) ProjectOverview with short description of overall project and the Hazard and Risk Analysis

2) Hazard and Risk Analysis with every relevant information out of my Medini Project.

Every Report itself works

What I want to do:

Trigger the Report generation of the ProjectOverview

This should Trigger the Report generation of the HARA Report to a separate PDF

Link a Hyperlink of the ProjectOverview to the section in the HARA Report

I think that explains better

A little more context:

When talking about generating a subreport (One PDF mainreport, one PDF subreport), I thought that would work by doing a drillthrough hyperlink from the mainreport to the rptdesign of the subreport.

But it doesn´t generate the subreport and I don´t know what to do.

Like asked in the first post, I would like to reach the ability of storing a copy of an external document in the output package of my pdf-report. Did you think about it, or is there any known solution at the moment?

Maybe it would be possible to generate a Hyperlink in my generated report, which opens the external document after the output?

Hi Jakob,

ok, lets stay with this particular problem first, the other one (drill down multiple reports) is much more complicated.

What I have (somewhere) is indeed a report that creates hyperlinks to external documents in the project.

Clicking them will open the original document. This solution does NOT copy the files.

However, I think it would be feasible to extend that and really copy the fiels to the same directory as the final report

and make the hyperlinks "relative" to the report.

based on this article I was able to quickly create a design that renders a hyperlink for each external document in a project. Please check and extend on your needs.

Not yet, I am still searching for something we did a while back. I remember something exactly like your request.

Just want to avoid to reinvent the wheel.

In any case, it shoulnd't be that difficult.
