In a recent BIRT workshop we stumbled over a very strange exception when generating a normal report based on a BIRT report design. A strange exception was thrown and the report generation did not finished successfully:
Error happened while running the report.
org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.internal.content.wrap.CellContentWrapper cannot be cast to org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.content.impl.CellContent
It turned out to be a nasty bug reported against BIRT in the lat year which is still open. Reason behind this problem is a grid that uses "combined cells" in either header or footer of a master-page. So if you stumble over this issue and you have modeled something like this:
... basically a grid with multiple rows (here 2 in my example) and combined cells (for example to show a logo) you may be affected by exactly this bug.
The solution we found in the BIRT workshop was to split the cells, reduce the grid to a single row and instead of combining cells in the first column, use another grid in the second. Looks like this:
Hope you never hit this but just in case...
