Enable 'Whether to compute the failure rate of this failure mode on its cause or not' option by dafault in Basic Event

Hello Ansys team,

We are currently looking for a way to enable the option "Whether to compute the failure rate of this failure mode on its cause or not" by default in the Basic Events created via scripting.

Steps:

We create Basic Events as "Malfunction" and then generate a copy of them as "Failure Modes" through scripting. However, the generated Failure Modes have the option "Whether to compute the failure rate of this failure mode on its cause or not" disabled by default. As a result, the eFMEA results on FIT (Failures in Time) are not being accumulated in the Basic Events, which are derived from Failures mapped in the eFMEA worksheet.

We would appreciate it if you could suggest a solution or configuration setting that would allow us to enable this option by default for all Failure Modes created, whether via scripting or any other method.

Absolutely right Marian, not only the failure mode needs to be changed but also the owning part.

Note that the .instance is not anymore required when setting the value (only in some comparison cases)

That leads us to:

fm.failureRateKind = Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateKind.DERIVED;
fm.eContainer().failureRateMode = Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateMode.FROM_FAILURE_MODES

// or 
fm.the_owner.failureRateMode = Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateMode.FROM_FAILURE_MODES;

just to clarify,

I thought there were two things necessary to enable this FIT approach:

* set the FailureMode's 
fm.failureRateKind = Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateKind.DERIVED.instance

* set the owner (sysm Element) FailureRateMode 
fm.eContainer().failureRateMode= Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateMode.FROM_FAILURE_MODES.instance

Or only setting the FM's kind at FM is sufficient ?Marian

Hi,

I think you just have to set the failureRateMode attribute of the new failure mode. By default, the value is set to USER_DEFINED but you have to set it to FROM_FAILURE_MODES. I think this shold work:

fm.failureRateMode = Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureRateMode.FROM_FAILURE_MODES.instance;

// or this
fm.failureRateMode = "FROM_FAILURE_MODES";
