Getting an error - Invalid assignment left-hand side

Hello,

I am trying to calculate a new property Risk Priority Level (RPL).

I derived the property through customization in Current Design Control (derived FMEA and SWA only).

Here is the script -

var result;

var OCC = +self.element.occurence;

var DET = +self.element.detection;

var SEV = +self.failureCause.failureMode.failureEffects[0].element.maxSeverity;

if(SEV>=1 && SEV<=10 && OCC=1) {

result = 3;

} else if (SEV>=1 && SEV<=9 && OCC=2) {

result = 2;

} else {

result = 1;

}

result;

I am getting an error -

Failed to execute Java Script: Invalid assignment left-hand side.

Can someone help what does this error mean? and how can I rectify it?

Hi Kepin,

I think it should be OCC==1 instead of OCC=1.

Btw, what is the statement "var OCC = +self.element.occurence;" supposed to do? Just

var OCC = self.element.occurence;

should be sufficient, right?

I have one more question.

I want to assign severity as 1 if the severity is not defined in the script.

I tried the following -

if(SEV === undefined || SEV === null || SEV.length <= 0){

SEV = 1;

}

It did not work.

Can you please help with it?

what kind of error do you get? Without it I can only guess.

Why for example are you using SEV.length, is this an array or are you assuming it a string?

You may do console.log(typeof SEV) to see which type it has

The error I am getting is as follows -

"Failed to execute Java Script: index=0, size=0"

I am not sure where am I supposed to type "console.log(typeof SEV)" and check.

Ah, sorry, maybe my fault, I violated my own guideline for console logs, better use

console.log("Type is {0}", typeof SEV);

THe log function is parsing the first parameter for placeholders like {0} so that might be confusing the script.

If that is not the root cause, come back here.

The console shows a message - "Type is number".

How do I check the value of severity when the severity column is empty?

Kepi, it also says "Number" if the cell is undefined?

Maybe you can extend to

console.log("Type is {0} and value is {1}", typeof SEV, SEV);

to see these cases. WHyt is logged when the column is empty?

Kepin, what what is the value? My idea was to find out which value SEV can be in different situations, just try to log the value and check whetehr it is NaN or undefined or -1 or 0.

I will mingle if I can..

First of all I dont like the self.failureCause.failureMode.failureEffects[0].element.maxSeverity;
there could be cases where there won't be any failure effect and thus asking for index0 may be a problem.

It also confirmed by the "Failed to execute Java Script: index=0, size=0"

so either utilize lazy way

var SEV = 0;
try {
 SEV = self.failureCause.failureMode.failureEffects[0].element.maxSeverity;
 } catche (e) { 
 console.log("WARNING: {0} has no failure effect! Assumed severity : 0 
 ,self.failureCause.failureMode.element.label);
}

Or just make sure that the failureMode has some failureEffect before extracting the maxSeverity.

If you want to take the mas Severity out of all available affects you could do:

If the any of the effects is a top level one gets its Severity, if the effect has some effects take maxSeverity.
if there is no effect it will use te SEV = 0;
