More flexibility of voting gate

Question

I need to do a lot of conditional analysis using FTA and need more flexibility from the voting gate to have thresholds for both sides. Existing voting gate calculates P(n > threshold), but I expect an improvement in the voting gate feature to support calculation of P(threshold_1 < n < threshold_2).

yes I will definitely consider that, but I dont think I will do that many under each voting gate. probably <20. but I will have multiple such voting gate in a system,

but is this feature doable in Medini? I also had a meeting with Raqiq about this, he said he will sync with you

Hi Bob,

Are you sure that a fault tree voting gate is the right choice for your calculation? Please consider that using voting gates with large number of inputs is the quickest way to construct unsolvable giant fault tree structures.

For example a 5 out of 100 voting gate represents 75 million combinations. If you place that under an AND gate (anywhere between your voting gate and the top event), then the rest of the fault tree is instantiated 75 million times. Such a numerical computation on fault tree level is hardly possible by any FTA tool, opposed to a formula-based calculation of the "5 out of 100" binomial coefficient.

Just to avoid that you are chasing an anyway impossible solution...

Hi Nils,

I am doing HV battery which has hundreds and thousands of same cells in the system (identical but independent basic event), and I need to do some quantitative analysis with specific numbers of cell failure, because the safety mechanism and its failure rate is different for different cell failure count.

when I am doing this analysis, I dont think I need to look at the cut set (although it will be great to include). So a standalone feature without cut set generation can be the first step?

I agree with you the challenge, I implement this feature in Excel, but definitely not the right tool for cut set calculation.
