Import data from excel file that is an External Document

HI, i am importing information from an excel file. The Excel library is very helpfull. At the moment I use the jave dialog to select the file. 

	var file = openFile(["*.xlsx","*.xls"]);

	if (file) {

	// 2. open the document - second argument means "read only"
	var document = ExcelDocument.open(file, true);

to make it more clear and traceable what excel file was used for import, i want to manually add the excel file als "External Document" and then give this to the ExcelDocument.open function. But i cant get this to work.

It would be Ok to select the Excel file in the model tree and then execute the script there. A solution via "selection" would be ok. I dondt need any dialog at the moment, also no functionality to add the excel file as external document automatically. This can be done at a later stage.

Hello Martin,

for that kind of scripting (access a file which is behind a document in the project) there is library named documents.js floating around in this forum. It offers just a single method localFile(Document) which gives you the real file behind a document which in turn you can pass to the Excel open() call.

I have attached it for your convenience again. See the test script for usage example.
