Helper script to search and select elements in the model browser

You may have experiences some "obstacles" when using the text filter in the model browser, the filter is reacting on each character, its somewhat slow when your workspace is full and there is an issue if you have reduced the scope using "go into" and there is no match found (the current scope will be left). In addition, clearing the filter will reset any found elements.

To overcome the situation and to offer a kind of "I want to search for some elements (potentially in a selected scope) and have them selected in the end in the browser" we quickly wrote a simple script that you will find attached.

Any feedback is highly appreciated. Note that we avoided to load any external lib like the ui.js but instead copied script code there.

Not specifically related to this script and as noted already independently, I merely feel that executing the script is cumbersome. Ideally, a shortcut icon or keyboard shortcut could be used to invoke the (a) script on the current model browser selection.

Marian, it was indeed shared and I have to dig that our.

Note that that way implies that you need to deploy plugins to medini, at the day when the article started, we used "dropins" which still may work.

More sophiticated would be to really create an update site,

Anyway, before digging this out I wanted to make sure you are aware that this leaves the "simplicity" of pure batch scripting and moves you into more eclipse plugin development (although you dont write any line of Java or eclipse code).

did you actually also try the 'new' search&select feature using F7 in the model browser? It works at least faster then the normal modelbrowser search (and has been introduced with R2021R2 i.e. after the script mentioned by Jan)

wrt to select element and F7. I discovered it by accident when I pressed incorrect Fx keyboard button and have been using that since then

My question was targeting a general possibility to add any *.js functionality to a menu.

I suspected hat the eclipse plugin development would be the only option.

I assume that exposing all the necessary classes through a bind in *.js library file would be too complex Furthermore I am not familiar with the eclipse UI workbench and not really sure if it is even possible to modify the UI once the workbench is started.

writing a bundle is indeed the only option at the moment and quite some effort. Whats the reasoning behind, you really want extra actions in the menus because that looks nicer than the generic "Execute" or is it more that you want to show some scripts just for specific objects and other scripts for other object types?
