Displaying Requirement SIL in the IEC 61508 Template

Hi,

I'd like to display the SIL of a requirement in the IEC 61508 template. Is it possible to add two sting properties to the profile, one for the name of the requirement, and another for the SIL and then use a script to overwrite the requirement name?

E.g., below I have added two properties - user_name, and user_sil. I would like to overwrite the actual requirement name by running a script. So in this case "Requirement" would be replaced by "Req SIL 1"

Would you be able to provide some guidance on how to create this if it's possible?

Hi,

I have created a short script in OCL to attempt to change the requirement display name to include a SIL.

self.oclAsType(safetygoals::SafetyRequirement).name=(
	self.oclAsType(safetygoals::SafetyRequirement).user_name->union
		(self.oclAsType(safetygoals::SafetyRequirement).user_sil))

However, when executing the script on a requirement I get the following error:

When removing the third line and the union like below:

self.oclAsType(safetygoals::SafetyRequirement).name=(
	self.oclAsType(safetygoals::SafetyRequirement).user_name)

The script executes without errors but does not update the requirement name

Hello Jacob,

in fact this is not possible as OCL is side effect free ... i.e. you can not overwrite some existing attribute but only calculate a value for the derived property.

The Operator "=" is not an assignment but is the logical operator equals ... Your script above will consequently derive a boolean value for your (new) property - which is true when name and user_name are the same string and false otherwise.

Thanks for the information, I've created a new script in JavaScript below:

//User specified requirement name
var NAME_DEFINED = Metamodel.safetygoals.SafetyRequirement.user_name

//User specified SIL
var SIL_DEFINED = Metamodel.safetygoals.SafetyRequirement.user_sil

//Overwrite requirement name
Metamodel.safetygoals.SafetyRequirement.name = NAME_DEFINED + SIL_DEFINED

When executing the script I get the following error:

Are you aware of a method to only change the display name without altering the actual name in the metamodel?

+ "union" is I think an operator on lists, same as ->, you cant use that for strings, maybe concat() is what you were looking for?

Not exactly but thanks for the info. I'm trying to change the display name of a requirement in the IEC 61508 template to a combination of custom string profile properties.

Ultimately I'm trying to replicate displaying the SIL on the requirement similar to the functionality in the ISO 26262 templates

As you can see from above when attempting this in JavaScript I get an error message saying "Changing the metamodel is not possible". So I'm assuming that this is not possible at all for the end user?

Well, Metamodel.safetygoals.SafetyRequirement.name is indeed the Metamodel singleton and that cannot be changed.

If you want to change the name attribute of an object, you typically use

object.name = 'ddd';

However, if you are in a derived property script, as Eckhardt said, you cant write but just read in it anyway.

Hi Jacob, yes for JS the same holds as for OCL: No side effects based on writing on other attributes/properties are allowed. The only option you have would be to have an explicit script that would change the name (something similar to the various "Renumber XXX Scripts".
