Creating Read-Only Attributes

Hello,

My goal is to have a few attributes in my Attacks collection, e.g., Attack ID, Attack Name and Attack Description, which can only be written by my Excel import script, not by users.

One way I thought about addressing this was by creating derived properties for Attack ID, Attack Name and Attack Description which will read the ID, Name Description string attributes populated by excel (these columns would be hidden in the table view) and display their values in a non modifiable way to the user.

I was wondering if there are any other ways to make a string attribute read-only for users, other then creating new attributes, or if my strategy above would be the right way to go.

Hi Lucas,

actually I can also not think of a different solution just a potential improvement to even more accessing the property by a user:

1. Define the two properties as you mentioned one as a string property and the second one as a derived (OCL) Property showing the value of the firts one
2. Uncheck the property which you use for importing
   
3. As result the blue one is not visible at the UI (e.g. you do not need to hide columns) - however it still can be written using a script and accessed from other derived profile properties.

As a result there would be no easy way for a user to change it manually (as he does not even see it) - except of course he goes to the Profile Properties Settings and activates it again.
