Show fixed background image on diagram instead of model elements

Question

If you have used the sysml importer for EA or Rhapsody. you know the topic: both importers can "import external diagrams as images". That means, the final diagrams are not real medini sysml diagrams but they show snapshots of the original diagram as it looks like in the external tool.

There are use cases where you want to replicate that, for example if you have imported your system model from Excel or any other tool and there is a picture of that to be shown. Find an extended diagram.js method attached to this article that offers a function to exactly do that. Example code is also attached.

Hi Johan,

there is currently indeed none that supports both directions, of course one can write a script that exports the system model as JSON or what ever and import that would be rather a work around and not really good support for round tripping. Idea of the future with our modeling server is to not always import system models but to execute analyses directly on them.

please check the Rhapsody preferences, there are a number of options, one is to enable "Diagram import".

Note that this will result in read-only snapshots from Rhapsody diagrams, not really medini diagrams.

The difference between the diagram notation is far too big to get them converted.

Export to Rhapsody is not supported by medini itself but technically possible using the Rhapsody API/library we use.
