Programmatically Create a Trace Matrix

Hello,

Is there a way to open a trace matrix programmatically? If so, is there also a way to set filters of the matrix programmatically?

My idea is to create a js script that opens a trace matrix between two collections, e.g., Attacks Collection and Vulnerabilities Collection, where this trace matrix has a few filters applied.

The HTML proposal by Jan is more directly integrated into the medini GUI, but if Word is ok (or for reporting actually better), then I hope the sample works for you.

Hi Lucas,

the trace matrix is a UI feature of medini. Except some simple selection features, UI capabilities of medini are not supported by the scripting API. Note, the API is mainly working on the data model and not at the UI.

So deviating a little bit from the topic of this forum, is there a way to generate something similar to a trace matrix, using BiRT?

If so, would you have an example on how to do that?

I would like to see something like the following table in a report (where the X's denote a trace or reference property from Vulnerability to Attack):

You may create a HTML page with a simple table inside an open that in the internal browser (that part explained in another article in this forum).

That way you have full control over the view, HTML is pretty simple and fast to create.

How about that idea?

The template you provided works fine with the example.

Although, in my case, I have way over 100 attacks and vulnerabilities in my model that need to go into the table in the report.

So when I try to generate the report for my model, Word throws the following error:

The error only goes away if I delete some attacks and vulnerabilities from my model (keeping the number of elements that will go into the table low).

Are there any ways to circumvent this issue? Would generating the report in Excel format using BIRT be a possible solution?

Lukas, maybe the table is simply too big? Too many columns I mean for Word?

Do you have a number here so we can be sure thats a Word table limit?

A solution could be that you "paginate" this, so basically create multiples tables

first for first 100 columns, second for second and so fourth... right?

Lukas,

Word has a fixed limit of maximum 63 columns for a Word table. Word itself doesn't let you add more columns (try it, or add a new table with more columns), and a file with more columns is seen as corrupted.

You could follow Jan's recommendation with pagination - 100 columns is probably anyway difficult to put on a page. "subSequence()" could help for this.
