Downloading remote files into a project

Hello,

Is there a way to download a file hosted remotely into the project?

My ultimate goal is to import the contents of a remote excel file, i.e., hosted online, into Medini. I already have the script to do it but first, you have to download the file manually and then specify the file path when you run the script.

I'd like to make that process as transparent as possible and pull the contents of the remote excel automatically when the script is executed. Is that possible?

Hi Jan,

I have the same question. When we access the excel workbook by going to the website, it let us choose between opening the file or saving it. If there is a function that can chose the "save the file" option, could we write a script which downloads the excel into a temporary location, import the content, then delete the file?

I'm currently having some issues with connecting to SVN via virtual machine, so the thread you posted isn't so relevant to me just yet. Would you recommend other approaches?

technically that sounds feasible. However, before I jump to quickly to a conclusion, maybe you can explain a bit your use case form user perspective

and maybe your idea of sharing an Excel on a server?

That way I could come up with other ideas maybe...

Hi Jan,

From the user experience: Just by executing the script, the user shall get the latest data from the remote excel sheet and it will be used to update/populate a collection within the project.

The excel is on a server already.

Remember that the above script was made for the original objective of Florent, so it downloads a script and loads/executes it. You have to change that too.

Hi Jan,

For the website that I would like to download from, it comes back with Failed to download file from location...

I tried with another file, a pdf that I have in google drive. Using the script it is downloaded into C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp but the file is downloaded as a zip file that can't be opened (error message when trying to open: the compressed folder is invalid).

What I have in the script is exactly the same as what you posted. I'll post it here again for clarification.

you are right, I have to apologize. I think I picked the wrong utility, the DownloadHelper is meant to be used to download project templates, not arbitrary files.

I will have to double check and provide another code snippet.

I have replaced the argument of line

I overlooked the following: the DownloadHelper is meant to download templates but its able to do that for SVN repos but also plain HTTP servers while the Team Util is meant for Subversion only.

So would be good to understand your use case.

Thanks for the script! I think we are pretty close!

At the moment, it comes back with the classic error of:

Failed to execute Java Script: Wrapped javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target (test.js#49)

After looking around on the web (here), it seems like we'd have to add the https certificate chain (of the location that has the file to be downloaded) to the Medini cacert file.

I would like other users within my team to be able to download from this location too. So if I just change it for my program others still won't be able to access it. Do you have any recommended way of doing it?

Hi Maisy, thats difficult to answer and I do not have the ideal solution.

Do you have a Java JRE in your company that is distributed? If so, I assume it has the right certificates installed. You would need to match teh versions (medini 21.1 is Java 8 while medini 21.2 is Java 11).

Does it have to be https? Is it possible to server just http?

Just top conclude: anyone that gets this error when using a Java application as medini and a accessing a web site using https inside its company, he has to make sure that the root certificate chain is known in the JRE cacerts certificate store.

In other words: companies tend to sign their server certificates (required for https) with their own company root CA for some reasons (its cheaper?). But that means that the root CA and any intermediate CA must be known to the JRE which isn't in medini's JRE.
