FMEA excel importing into derived MEDINI FMEA

Hello,

I would like to import an existing FMEA (Excel) into an existing derived FMEA in MEDINI (which is clearly not possible with the native import feature).

To be more precise, I need only to import the failure effects (in order to avoid to re-do it for thousand rows).

So my question is, do you have any starting script that woud help me to start this import? Just the basic code to:

parse an Excel file
parse a MEDINI fmea
if we find equal values (e.g. failure mode of a component) then copy a failure effect (which has to be an existing malfunction of course!).

I will then adjust the code to fit to my need.

Please it would help me a lot ;-)

Hi Romain,

the Finder API has some more methods that might be helpful, one of that is filter(Filter) were Filter can be any function with a single argument:

finder.findByType(...).filter(function(e) {
 return true; // or false do exclude
});


function onlyImportant(item) {
 if (item,isImportant) {
 return true;
 }
 return false;
}

finder.findByType(...).filter(onlyImportant);

Hope that illustrates it.

I wonder whether that's described in the scripting guide, I was not able to find it ...

Hi Romain,

there are anumber of excel import sample scripts in this forum, some are better applicable to a "line by line" import, others do handle the complete line parsing themselves.

One point: if you have a derived FMEA you probabaly need to modify the failure net instead of the FMEA directly right?

So adding effects to failure modes, rather then changign FMEA entries.

Ok now to parse Excel file and parse MEDINI project thanks to the other scripting discussions around Excel (thx).

One question: when i am using "finder.findByType(Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureMode).asArray()", is it possible to filter the result by a name instead of using nested loop? (it is to filter according to the container for example).

Sure, there are plenty of filter options at the Finder API, please check the embedded scripting documentation (in the medini tool).

Just an example:

finder.findByType(Metamodel.safetyModel.FailureMode).and("name", "short").butNot("represents", null).asArray();

The value can be also a regular expression, AFAIK.

Now I am at the last step, since the script is able to:

find for every row of my excel, the corresponding Failure mode into MEDINI;
find the malfunction to associate as failure effect

then, how can I set the array_failure_mode(i).effect = array_malfunction(j)??? When i do something as below, nothing happen...

FailureModesMEDINI[i].effects[0]=finalEffectMEDINI[j];

A few remarks to make code read nicer:

countSuccessMatch = countSuccessMatch +1; can expressed as countSuccessMatch++; in JS

You can use forEach either on the finder result or on the JS array so instead of

for(var i=0;i<FailureModesMEDINI.length;i++){

var codeRowMEDINI = FailureModesMEDINI[i]

FailureModesMEDINI.forEach(function ( codeRowMEDINI) {

// do it

});

I at least like this forEach style.

The enclosing if is probabaly not required, right? Makes code smaller

I would like to find a way to reduce the size of the "finder.findByType" to reduce the processing time of the 5 thousand rows.

How can I filter the finder result based on the container's name? (i see how to deal with filter from properties with ".and("name","blabla")" but it does not seem possible with a parent).
