Delete CutSet from Cut Set Analysis Model

Hi Jan and community,

I'd very much like to shring my CutSet Analysis Models, as the currently carry roughly 300.000 CutSets. Consequently, my plan is to apply a cutoff threshold and remove CutSets from the list.

I'm currently stuck as the CutSets of an analyis model seem to be of type

% objCutSets.class;

[JavaClass org.eclipse.emf.common.util.ECollections$UnmodifiableEList]

".remove(someIndex)" throws an error. Can I circument the list being an "UnmodifiableEList"?

Should I create a duplicate array that is modfiable? (https://www.techiedelight.com/unmodifiable-list-java/)

Ideally, I can retain the CutSet analysis model, as is displayed in the model browser but remove like 99% of the cutsets as their contribution is neglectible (defined by some threshold).

Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

in normal cases, all containment relations are returns as "unmodifiable lists" to avoid that scripts change the containment by simply modifying the list. So you basically ran into a protection mechanism. There are a few examples in the forum (like all the sort scripts) that show how to disable that protection, but for you case (deletion) its anyway not okay to just remove elements from the collection, you have to use the Trashbin to delete them.

I prepared a sample script (find it attached) which takes the stored Analysis Model as input and removes all cut-set that have a importance value lets say below 0.0001. You can take it from there and adapt if you like. Feel free to later post the result here in the forum.

using trashbin works like a charm. I wonder why I hadn't thought about this on Friday evening... I'm working to extend my script's functionality. I'm unsure how much merit there is to post it here.

One thing our scripts do differently and you might want to check is, that yours is missing a line along inside the for loop:

			j--; // reduce index to not skip CutSets

I verified that my script misbehaves, if I remove the "index correction" of the counter variable - I haven't checked yours actually.

I think the "j--" issue is probably needed if you "delete objects while iterating over the original list".

I always create a copy (an array) so that I am independent on the deletion operation.

I probably will post another article on that subject.
