Restructuring BOM Import according to Hierarchy Path Column from Excel Import

Dear scripting community,

I am currently struggeling with sorting of a BOM Import according to a hierarchy path that is described in the Excel with "\" as separator.

The structure of the column looks like this and shall be translated into a hierarchy in medini.

Hierarchy Block Hierarchy Path Big Block \$1 Internal Block \$1\$2 Inherited Internal Block \$1\$2\$3 Inherited in inherited Block Block \$1\$2\$3\$4

The result in medini shall look like this.

This is my current status of the script which is an adaptation of the common Restructuring HW Model Script.

Your help and hints are highly appreciated ;-)

Hi Joel,

the current version of the script (as in BestPractice) does expect a real path name and not a symbolic one (like you show in your Excel). So best would be to have the Excel look like this:

In that case you would just need to modify the the SEPARATOR to "\\" and map the Hierarchy block to the profile property "circuit_block" and the script would work right away ... the Hierarchy Path columns would not be used in this case at all.

The symbolic path notation as you have in your example would need quite an additional work and as it is based on some ordering of the entries at each hierarchy has also the risk of incorrect import due to reordering elements (which may invalidate the mapping between the $x symbolic pathes to the real component names)

So try to ask the customer whether he can also include the real path in the BOM (even if they have this as a separate columns besides the original Hierarchy block name)
