Import *.layout file on FMEA Worksheet using JS

Hi Jan,

This question might be a reach but thought I'd throw it out there anyway. Is there any way to programmatically import a *.layout file into a header row of a FMEA worksheet? Due to our various analyses, we are using the FMEA to house more than the FMEA and therefore I have to include a *.layout for the end user to import for each analysis.
Instead of including these separately, I would like to create a simple function that calls the file from somewhere in the project, ask the user what type of analysis (i.e. what layout file) and import it for them.

So you have these layout files prepared in the project somewhere an want to quickly apply them, is that the right understanding?

That is exactly correct. I figured this would be an odd-ball request. It is not a top priority, but, would save countless hours of trying to explain the import to engineers and I can see keeping track of the files will be a nightmare in the future.

I checked and ... lets say, its not impossible :-) However, it requires quite some nasty scripting.

There is an update planned for 2019 R2, in best case, exactly this feature is implemented, at least dropping files to the table should work. If not, we may come back to the scripting approach.

Hi Flo,

I think it still would be possible, both use cases. The "save" use case unfortunately would always ask the user for a file, the script cannot give one.

For load, a script may pass a file.

There is some obstacle though: it seems always to work on the currently active table editor only, so that editor must be open :-(

Hi Terry,

good news: that can be achieved by a script, so it can be done.

Its somewhat complex though, the FMEA is highly structured, components and failure modes are easy but all the rest (measure groups, etc) is very tricky.

medini™ analyze User Guide > Safety Analysis > FMEA > Import of FMEA data (Excel)

But usually it would be much easier if you have an FMEA in MSR-XML format (which can be created by various stand-alone FMEA tools)
