Profiling Derived Properties Using JavaScript

Guten Tag Jan,

I am exploring the capabilities of using the derived properties profiling. I found a few example within the Metamodel document (chapter 10 - attached); more specifically example 10.3. However, while I partially understand the OCL example, do you have anything that is similar written in JavaScript?

P.S. I recently returned from a 3 month study abroad term in Reutlingen, really enjoyed what Germany had to offer.

In principle there is no big difference between "batch scripting" and "profile scripting", the result of the script is shown as the value of the derived property. However, you cannot modify he model of course, the script is executed in a read-transaction only. So only traverse, read and calculate.

A good start might be to have a look at my article "Speed up profile scripting". There is a sample project which lets you script by simply entering the script in a text field or cell. Much easier than actually to edit it in the Profile settings. Alternatively you can write a batch script for a specific single selected object and later just change the "use the first selected element" part by "self".

I forgot one big difference: till 19.2 you don't have the "Finder" and "Metamodel" and other nice helpers in Java Script in Profiles... this will come with 19.3 in a few days though.

Hi Jan,

My question refers to getting parents and children of elements.

GM is still using version 19.2, waiting for IT to finish vetting and push 19.3. Until then, I am still slightly limited not having "Finder" and "Metamodel" in the derived profiles.

Looping through both 'this' and 'self' there is no property to 'get container package' or 'get children' for example... I assume this will not only be possible, but be easier to get these properties in 19.3 - but is there any way that you see possible with our current 19.2 version?

Hi Tony,

the parent of an element can be always obtained using just "mediniGetContainer" function so:

self.mediniGetContainer()

For children it depends. You may have a look at the metamodel documentation. If for example there is a containment relationship named "foo" you can get all elements using the "foo" attribute. Our SysML stuff for example is based on UML, so most children are contained using the "the_owner/the_owned_elements" relationships (the_owner being the upward direction to the parent, the_owned_elements downwards to the children). So you may try:

self.the_owned_elements

We are on version 20.1 (2020R1) now...

If I create a HazardAnalysisModel and I add a custom column "Safety Requirements" that I set up through profiles to reference multiple SafetyRequirement objects, can I use javascript to fill in that profiled property with an array of SafetyRequirement objects? How would I achieve this?

Sure Johan, you in principle can do that with a script. Please have a look at this article.

Multi references are scripted "as lists", so the returned value of such an attribute is a list which you can manipulate,

you can use size() or add(obj) and remove(obj). There is no add(array) though.

Well, should be exactly the same syntax, so:

he.user_safety_requirement.add(req);

but of course only if you have set "Allow multiple references"
