Handling external documents (PJExternalDocument) in scripts

Hello,

I am looking for a way to handle external documents (PJExternalDocument) in javascript scripts.

I found another discussion (Rendering external image links in reports) but that seems to be specific for Birt report generation.

In our case, there are external documents attached to a project (both, copy and reference). As part of a script for data export, we need to access these documents and copy them to a new location.

Does PJExternalDocument offer methods to access or copy the underlying document?

To use file operations, I need the actual location of the document. In case of a reference, I can use the uri attribute. In case of a copy, the uri is relative to the project but how to get the URI of the project that contains the external document?

Hi Ralph,

that's indeed a common issue and we started with a library for documents a while back. For some reason that never made it to the list of libraries at https://medini.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/1000273630-scripting-libraries

I will publish what we have there shortly, until then, here a copy. Currently it supports only a single method, and that's I guess exactly what you need:

var Docs = load(".lib/documents.js");

// returned value is of type java.io.File !
var file = Docs.localFile(anyPJExternalDocument);
