Hello Jan,

How
to identify the parent and child events using script for the below scenario?

e.g: From
the FTA diagram(see below) (the image is no very clear even when I tried
expanding, pls take another better screenshot if possible) visually we can see
:

Eg.
1) for the parent event (E799) and which is the child event (Ft.1 &
E489).

1. Eg. 2) Parent(E489)
and child(E844,E849,E850,E851).

How can this identification of
the sets of parent and child event be done using javascript MetaModel API.

Expected O/P:

Parent	Child
E799	E489
E489	E844
E489	E849
E489	E851
E844	E840

Hi there,

to traverse FTA trees you need two things:

1. its important to understand that Events are represented in Fault Trees by EventNodes, so the Event (1) may occur multiple times in the event tree with different EventNodes. You can navigate from an Event to its nodes by using "Event.nodes" and from a node to its event by using "EventNode.event"

2. navigation to parent or children is done via the node, not the event, so use EventNode.inputs and EventNode.outputs, inputs for children and outputs for parent. You may alternatively use "EventNode.children" resp. "EventNode.parent"

Thanks for the solution i am able to go through the tree. Now i wanted to skip Transfer Gates from the tree, which means i wanted to consider only normal events.

In the above diagram i wanted to skip transfer gate id:"FfI.1"

Do we have any specific Metamodel API support for this?

Just check whether the node is of instance Metamodel.FTA.TransferGate, see the other article:

If I am creating an Fault Tree, do I need to create and connect an EventNode object it if is referring to an already existing Event? Or can I just reference the existing Event and the EventNode is created behind the scenes? What is the correct way to handle this?

If you do NOT want to create MOEs (so multiple occurring events), you just need to create Events and the EventNode is created behind the scenes.

If you want to create an MOE, you need to create a new EventNode and bind it to an existing Event. I am not sure, whether the factory can handle that already.

no, that not supposed to work like that. The Event is not the container of EventNodes,

They are all contained in the fault tree but reference each other.

 // create a fault tree and two events, one as a MOE with 2 nodes
 {
 var fta = Factory.createElement(finder.getScope(), Metamodel.FTA.FTAModel);
 fta.name = "My FTA";
 var ev1 = Factory.createElement(fta, Metamodel.FTA.Event);
 ev1.name ="Failed";
 var ev2 = Factory.createElement(fta, Metamodel.FTA.Event);
 ev2.name ="Rest";
 var ev3 = Factory.createElement(fta, Metamodel.FTA.EventNode);
 ev3.event = ev2;
 }

So you create a new node but link it to an existing Event after creation!
