Search for notes by scripting

Hi,

Is it
possible to search for notes created on FTA and other diagrams with the finder class? I couldnt find them in the metamodel. Otherwise is there any other method to get a list of the notes somehow?

Hi Andre,

there is currently indeed no native tool feature to quickly find notes in diagrams. However, a script can bridge the gap, even though a few things have to be considered as well here.

1. In contrast to semantic models, all diagrams are loaded on demand, so only if a diagram is opened in an editor and removed from memory, once the diagram is closed
2. So a script is not able to find diagram elements when a diagram is not open
3. Diagram elements have a bit different containment hierarchy that makes it a bit more tricky to actually find them with the finder API
4. There is a separate metamodel for "Notation" reachable via "Metamodel.notation" e.g. "Metamodel.notation.Shape"
5. A Note is just a simple diagram Shape with a description

To make it more convenient for scripts, we have (as usual) a small library that offers a few methods to query diagram shapes and lines / edges. I will attach a ZIP file that contains the library (diagram.js) and a sample script file that logs shapes and edges to the console that are found in the selected diagram. The script is able to work on diagrams that are not open but a diagram node in the browser must be selected.
