Hi again all, Tony Cilluffo from General Motors here,

I have heard in the past that it is possible to stop the current script and start the next script; Other than creating a script just to reference multiple scripts and execute in order, is there a better way to do this within the tool?

OK, I maybe understand it better. There is no specific support to execute either a single or multiple scripts "outside" of the scripting itself, so at UI level for example. Each script is shown as individual item to be executed, (unless its hidden like the libraries we ship). So the scripter himself has to provide a kind of batch execution script - though its easy to write one by just importing all scripts that shall be executed in order.

Simply like this:

load("Script 1.js");
load("Script 2.js");
load("Script 3.js");
load("Script 4.js");

If you have an idea how to support that differently, please just tell me here in the forum.

Stopping a script has do be doe via the progress monitoring. While the script is executed, a dialog with a progress monitor appears. That one has a stop button inside (typical eclipse red button). The interface between the UI and the script is done via the "progressMonitor". There is a quite good example how to use it in the scripting guide, I don't want to repeat that but in short, the script should check the monitor for cancellation during long running operations like this:

// heavy long running stuff
while (....) {
 if (progressMonitor.isCanceled()) {
 throw "user canceled";
 }
}

If you throw an exception, all changes done so far are rolled back.

sorry for the late reply, usually we scan this board more frequent.

Anyway, I am not sure I got your point. Could you describe the scenario in which you wan to "stop" and start another script? is is just about keeping things separated (I think not) or more related to timing.

Hi Jan,

Sorry, I may have been confusing; you are somewhat correct, we want to keep scripts separate for both timing as well keeping them separated for readability / debug reasons.

Ideally, we would like to keep these scripts separated but not sit and execute a number of scripts in order. Instead, theoretically we say 'ok, we have 10 scripts and they must be executed 1-10 in order' do them all in one single push.

In some cases this seems somewhat minimal, but, in the future, we could easily have 30 scripts and having to execute each separately, and in order, would be a major pain.

That all said, does Medini support the ability to do this functionality or must it be done externally? Also, does Medini have a way to stop a script part way?

Thank you, Jan, that was a perfect explanation. That is how I figured it would work but wanted to see if there was a slightly less confusing way for those who do not understand the scripting aspect.
