Show element on diagram without nested children

You most likely know this behavior of medini: you have created or imported a structured system model, you create a new diagram, and you drag the top-level element to the diagram. As a result, you will see the element and all nested children on the diagram, like this: If the model is deeply nested that may look quite "packed" and may not be what you want. Now hold down the key while or before you drag the element and you will only get that element on the diagram without any content: In some situations, this is closer to what you want to see. You can repeat that for any child of A. Happy Working Jan

Thanks for following up on this Jan! As mentioned yesterday, would be nice to have the diagrams automatically generated at each sub level with linkage to lower level detail as you drill down.

Hi Jan, can you clarify that holding the ALT during or before drag and drop of B ( child to A) should result in a element B inserted into the diagram residing at the Hierarchical level of A element? I simply could not manage to do it. I was overruled by the Or this only prevents form showing the nested elements of A? Simple case: IC Diagram "A" can be drop with or without the hierarchy and if it has a diagram it will be inserted as a sub-diagram ( suing double click it I will navigate and Diagram A) "B" cannot be dropped at all (regular or ALT) A diagram "A" cannot be dropped at all "B can be dropped with or without nested elements If "B" has diagram then it will be depicted on the diagram and one can use double click to navigate to a diagram of associated element Thanks, Marian

Hi Marian, basically this are two things: You can only Drag&Drop elements onto a diagram which belongs to it's direct context element - i.e. in your example the context for B is A so you can D&D B onto an A Diagram. However, you can not D&D it onto IC Diagram as it is not the direct context With ALT you D&D only the selected element itself - without ALT the complete hierarchy spanned by the selected element. Hi Eckhardt, Thank you for the clarification! The part about direct context was something that i did not know. I tried to create structured diagrams and now it work so thanks again! One point as a suggestion, maybe it could be nice to have this information included in the medini Help ->User Guide. Currently the User Guide Section " Working with multiple Diagrams" states that any element can be dropped into any diagram. I think it might be very helpful for any user of the tool. Marian
