How to get bearing load components from file.rst using pyDPF ?

Question

I wrote a python script to combine MECHANICAL results. I need to know the exact components of the bearing loads applied to the model. Can I get them using pyDPF ? Presently I extract them from the ds.dat file and it's not as robust as I would like : ds.dat is modified at each MECHANICAL version.

Hi @jba_trm thank you for the clarification.

Would writing out the Bearing Load vectors directly from Mechanical during solve, using Mechanical Scripting and Python which is embedded into a "Python Code" object under Analysis, to save the data to a specific file, which can be read later, be a solution? In this way, whenever the model is re-solved, the file is automatically updated.

Hello,

We need to assess accurately the position of a shaft inside a casing.

Here's the workflow :

- casing displacements are calculated by MECHANICAL

- a PYTHON script, using dpf, gets the bearing center displacements from the previous model

- the same script also gets the bearing loads vectors  from ds.dat file

- the script calculates the bearing displacements on the basis of the bearing loads and the bearing components stifness

- finally casing and bearing displacement are combined to estimate the shaft position.

Miscellaneous :

- we want the script to use the ansys bearing load to reduce input mistakes

- our ds.dat reader has to be updated each time ANSYS developpers modify the ds.dat layout:  we would like our script to be independent of these changes.

Hello @jba_trm I do not think we can get them via pyDPF.

Could you clarify your workflow further so that we can try to identify other alternative options in addition to extracting them from ds.dat?
